Brown spots on Stanhopea leaves

Hello everyone, I have seached the forum but haven't been able to figure out what is going on with my Stanhopea tigrina.
This plant was a new purchase a few weeks ago. It has two p-bulbs and is currently in spike. It came to me with brown leaf tips and one of these small, round, brown spots on a leaf. Since in my care, I have noticed a couple more of these spots developing. The spots are not black, like rot, more dry and brown. It appears they develop a hole where the spot was after a little time. There are not alot of them, they are just randomly here and there. Sorry I can't post pics, camera is broken.
I keep it outside under the eves of my house, no direct sun. Temps have been jumping around from mid 70's to 90's, night temps mid 50's. I water once a day with our city water, which is very soft. I have only fertilized it twice (weakly) with Dyna Grow 7-9-5. Humidity is around 70%. Do you think it is a bacterial thing?

G'Day Iggy

I have the same stanhopea as you and suggest you read the attached Dragon Agro Products - Miscellaneous Orchids.
Especially about humidity and definitely air movement.
Hope this helps.

Cheers
Bernie

berniep-Thanks for the quick reply. From what I read, it sounds like it may have gotten too dry? The humidity seems to be good, but perhaps it may not be getting enough air movement, being under the eves of the house.
I always get a little over paranoid when I get a new species of orchid. I am just so excited to see (and smell) the flower on this one, that I want to make sure it stays happy!

Hi there,
When you say city water " waters soft". Are you referring to a water softener system at your home? If so don't use that, that's salt. yellow tips also form on some chids when salts build up from fertilizers and pots need water ran through media to flush the salts out. But a water softener system will seriously harm your orchids. Yellow tips like on a cymbidium is usually a good indicator of salt build up.

No, we do not have a water softner. By soft, I mean that there are not a lot of minerals in our water, according to the city reports. I do make sure to flush the pots about once a month so the salt from ferts. doesn't build up.
Are Stans more sensitive about water quality? I mostly grow Phals and Phaps and don't seem to have any leaf issues with them.
