New leaf yellowing around the edge?

Hey all

I have this mini phal orchid that I bought last year. It suffered root rot due to compacted sphag and no drainage pot. I rushed it home, and threw away all the moss, and in the end it had just two good roots left.
I decided to mount it, which was a suitable growing method for it. The roots get really dry, but now that I have free time, I am able to water more often. This is a picture of the plant and mount:

This is the Last flower on it..... But there will be more from subspikes that grew unexpectedly!::

Now, If you look closely here, in these two pictures, on the newest leaf, there is a yellow edging around it. I don't know what this is and what is causing it. ::

What are you opinions on what is happening?
Thanks, Jay

Hi Jay. Hmmmm. You know this yellow edge looks a little bit like some of the variegation seen in some of the variegated-leaved phals. It certainly doesn't look like anything harmful. Maybe just watch it and see what happens?

Thanks for the reply Kevin,
I have though about that being the case, but I kept wondering why the other leaves on the bottome didn't have this characteristic

ya know, i've been noticing a few of my (big) phals have this. it's not on the new leaves that are growing, but they are leaves closer to the top of the plant than the bottom. just a thin thin line of yellow all the way around the outside edge of the leaves. i've chalked it up to them getting more light now that it's spring and i don't think it's harming them at all. all plants that have this are nice and healthy and robust, and the line doesn't seem to be getting any bigger or worse. is your plant getting fairly high light levels?

It is probably a reaction to mounting the plant. Don't be surprised if that leaf doesn't get as large as previous leaves. Some phals do this when disturbed at certain times and some don't. I haven't figured out how to tell which ones will do this and which ones won't - just another phal mystery.

Since it is a newly mounted phal, you might consider remounting it on a larger mount. The stem should be higher on the mount for future support because the leaves and stem can become heavy. Phal roots get quite long as they grow and age and the more roots on the mount, the easier to keep them hydrated.

Good luck with your phal.

Brooke

Outdoor plants often get something like this due to an excess of fertilizer, potassium, perhaps. What is your fertilizer routine?

Which direction does this fairly high light window face?

my new leaves usually come up with either a darker ring around them or a yellowish one i think its just the leaf being new and exposed to light with certain types of orchids. the color has always gone away after a bit for me.
