Lola - a lot of mites are not necessarily visible, they can be really small. It does look like mite damage. I personally would treat it for mites, just in case, cause a bad infestation will kill the plant. Find a good miticide that is available locally for you, and follow the directions on the container. Pesticides are for insects, and mites are different, so you want to make sure it is labeled for mites. sometimes, you can find stuff that is labeled for both mites and insects. Repeat the treatment at least 3 times to be sure you get them all. the spots will not go away, but new growth will be good if you get them all. As for your other orchids being ok, sometimes it takes a little while for the infestation to show up, so I would definitely keep an eye on them. If this one is right beside them, I would probably treat them as well just to be safe. Cause if you treat this one, and there are only a couple of the little buggers on another one, well they just go back and forth. If it turns out it is not mites, the treatment won't hurt the plant - but it really does look like mite damage. BTW, mites like to hang out on the undersides of the leaves, when the infestation gets really bad, you can see some light webbing, but it's really small and thin.

Hello and to the Forum!I would agree with the mite diagnosis, I have seen similar damage where there was no visible evidence of mites. I treated it for mites, and the new growth had no damage.

Thank you guys so much. I just purchased the Garden safe 3 in 1 fungicide, insecticide and Miticide and I am going to treat all of my plants with it. I just got two new babies and i really don't want to ruin them. I noticed the damage on my baby when I realized taht one of my newer orchids leaves kept falling and looked like it had a lot of litte sratches on it. It was then that I noticed a little web like thing going on in the plant. I was in the process of repotting so I just cleaned and was them with a mild soapy substance and that seemed to help. But I will continue to use the 3 in 1. thanks you for all your help. Any more info would be of great value to me. Lola |

Since you noticed this very thin webbing (very often you won't even see them unless you mist or spray) i do agree on spider mites. Which can be very hard to kill. Please make sure you repeat treatment after 10-14 days to make sure you also kill the eggs that hatched after the initial treatment Gr. Erik |
