Unhappy Leaves issues

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with some of my chids. On the leaves, I can see some translucent spots. I am not sure what this is.
I would really appreciate your help. I will try to take some pics when I will get better light.

Thank you for reading,

Translucent. Is the translucent spot also soft? Mushy?

Thank you guys,

It is not mushy, and it is not soft. I have managed to get some pics. You can only really see them translucent in the sunlight.

Hmmm, honestly I don't think I've seen anything quite like that. Could there be a small larvae of some kind in there? As if it were a gall-like structure? I'll be interested in hearing what others think.

I was hoping that you will tell me a bit more. I have been browsing the web and checked my books, but I have not found anything like it. If it was an isolated case, I will not be so concerned, but I have these spots on few of my plants, usually on the oncidiums and odontoglossums alliance.

Celcat I don't know what it is either but I had the same thing happen to me I sprayed 3-in-1 a couple of times and it went away. It was clear and hard but like a little circle like thingy. Does this sound like what you have?

Thank you Orchidlover55,

Yes, it sounds like my spots. Unfortunately I cant find 3-in-1 in UK. I have tried in the past to look for it in shops, but without success. Maybe it is is time I try again

Celcat, it looks like the remains of a pest infection. I have a few like this. The pest had sucked out some of the leaves, but it looks like at least in the pics they are gone.

On mine, the spots didn't go away after the pest were irradicated, but new leaves didn't develop them.

Hi Celcat,

I agree with Renee -- it appears that you had an insect pest on the photographed leaves. If we are correct, these spots won't go away.

I hope that you have it controlled with your other oncidium and odontoglossum alliance plants.

I agree. Judging by the positioning of the spots, I would say there were some mealy bugs or scale along the central vein of the leaf. They have sucked the juices out of the plant causing local damage but appear to be gone now.

I would isolate the plant, check the others and wait to see if anything more happens.

Thank you to all of you

I have not found bayer 3-in-1 yet. Only few garden shops do sell it. Meantime, I will keep cleaning the leaves and use some insecticide if necessary.
