It needs a lot more air circulation; outside if at possible. I don't have a 'pure' cochleanthes, but I do have have a bolleanthes - bollea/cochleanthes - and a lot of others from the maxilliarae group, and they like a lot of air.

Thank you both of you! Orchidmentia, the only place I have to put them outside and currently it won't stop raining. I'm a bit worried that if I stick it outside it'll rot from so much water. Some of the smaller sheathing leaves get mushy if I let water get in them, though the rest are fine. Digitalgate: I got this from a quite reputable dealer, so I'm not too worried about virus. Like you said though, I'm perfectly capable of being wrong too! |

Take a look at the "Pests and Diseases" articles at the AOS AOS | Members Only Area Scroll down a little for the list of articles, which include pictures of the disease as well as control measures. BTW my guess would be either a fungus, or possibly cold damage, which the AOS says mimics the kind of damage seen in many other conditions. More air often corrects the conditions that lead up to something like that. Won't help the affected leaves, of course. Hope this helps. |

Well, if outside isn't an option, use a fan (I do with the ones that live inside). Just make sure to water more often; the increased air flow is drying and these guys don't have pbulbs. On edit: they can take brighter light than phals; most of this section does well with morning and late afternoon light and bright shade (enough to read in; not enough to tan in) the rest of the day. Move it and see how it does; to me, the spots say too little air and too low light but remember, I just have hybrids (and a calanthe).

I agree that air circulation will solve a lot of the spotting problem. I have oncidiums that use to get spotty but since they've been in the greenhouse with the doors open for the breeze the spots are no longer an issue.
