Maybe another virus?

A few months back, I had a plant that I received from an internet grower that I thought was virused, and threw it out!

(1st pic.)

Now I have another plant that has the color breaks, but not the distortion. This one was a cheap save.

(2nd pic. and the following...)They were grown no where near each other, and I have had lots of plants bloom near both of them with no problems.

If you enlarge #6, you can see the color breaks. The pictures that I have seen of this plant, have a smooth, creamy, even textured orange coloring on the petals.

I hate to say it patti but I think you are right to suspect a virus, more so on the second plant over the first. The colour breaks aren't a good sign. What do the leaves look like on these plants?

Hi, Kevin- I appreciate you responding to this one. Actually, the first one really bothered me, because it was de-formed as well as having the color breaks. I threw that baby out as soon as I took a picture! I'm very sentimental with my plants, to a point.

This one has the color breaks, but the form is beautiful, as is the fragrance... I know that in a case such as this, I should have it tested, but how much does that cost?? I only paid a couple of dollars for it, in the first place...

I'll take a pic of the leaves... I have to say, that I have a few plants that have dashes of red on the leaves, as well as the leaves not looking "well". I'm thinking that this coincides with the virus... Out of all my plants, there are only a few that have this effect on the leaves.

Patti this one looks more of a virus. In pic #6 I seen a spotting pattern in the leaf, but didn't know if that leaf belong to that plant. If you really like the plant, I would have it tested.

Thanks, Jenny... This plant smells SO good! There is some speckling on the leaves. There was on that other plant, and I have 2 others with that as well. I guess that 3-4 plants out of 150+ is o.k.- I'm just glad that I don't use the same tools, or watering buckets for them. It's hard, because it smells so good, and I can tell that it would be beautiful... Oh well...

I agree whit Jenny. After having looked at your leaf pic too, I'm afraid it just doesn't look good. Virus tests shouldn't cost too much. There was a guy in our orchid society who bought kits to do the testing and he only charged us something like $5 per test.

I'm not sure I need to wait. I've been at my best friends' house all evening/night. Her ex-died suddenly today. She and her kids are a mess. (He was only 51) Her husband died 7 years ago at 44 of a heart attack right in front of us. I think Pot. Hawaiian Thrill 'Paradise', is going to orchid heaven with Al and Bob...RIP

Thanks, digital, I'll do that! The flasker that I use, sterilizes his seed, not just the pod. That way any virus is killed. The fragrance on this blossom is heavenly!

Isn't there anything you can treat it with to save it?
Some of my orchids look like this. I think keeping them outside especially in the very hot and humid summer may make them susceptible.
