Soil Gnats

Bothersome little buggers. I use Sevin, mixed according to label instructions.

I brought bugs into the house. Had them a couple years ago in the winter and got rid of them well enough, if memory serves me right.

Yesterday and today, well yesterday and the day before, it's 4 a.m.! I worked on those bugs. I watered my orchids, let them sit for a half hour or so, then sprayed the Sevin mix directly on the medium and watered just enough to get the stuff down into the mix.

Was that right, did you all bring in bugs? I did try half-heartedly to spray before I brought them all in, but they were flying out again in the basement when I would water every couple days.

No mealy bugs this year or scale. Ain't that sumpthin

My butterworts are enjoying the fungus gnats. I am hoping that the scale and mealies are finally gone. My plants had quite a few predator bugs on them in the early summer and the wormwood in one of the pots discouraged the ants. I don't see either mealies or scale. Had some bugs gnawing faithfully on the leaves but a very large toad came to live in my plant pots (does this every year) and the new leaves were good.
Good luck to a bug-free winter!

Wormwood, I seem to remember that plant from a nature walk lead by one of Michigans leading botanists, Ellen Weatherbe up here. Is that the plant that can grow in the sandy dunes, is white powdery looking with lacy leaves?
It keeps ants away?

We have big black toad in our yard. It's an American Toad, but for some reason they are really black this year.

Yes, that is wormwood. It keeps nearly everything away.
Wonder why all the toads are black? We always have such a variety.
