Root disease, help please!

Hi,

My orchid had 2 flowers a few months ago that suddenly stopped opening and eventually died. Then the leaves started dying (becoming yellow and then falling off), and now I've noticed the roots have a brownish colour which I think it's the problem.

Another part of the plant seems healthy though, and it's growing at the moment. (the one to the right on the picture)

I attach a picture of how it looks, I would like to save the healthy bit, but not sure what to do.

Any help will be appreciated, it's my first orchid and i don't want it to die..

Many thanks

Hi Alisha,
the roots are in a good condition, no need to worry about them.
The part at the left (the mother plant) will die, as it grew a terminal spike (the flower spike growing in the centre of the plant prevents new leaves from growing). The good news is that it grew another plant (the one at the right) which is healthy. Maybe it's just a bit dehydrated.

Many thanks violetta!

So I don't need to do anything ? (apart from watering it, it's been really hot so it can be dehydrated)

Agree with violetta.

I would dunk water this plant, just up to the root zone, then let the water drain out, then give it good air circulation, I run the ceiling fan or open up a window if it is not too hot yet. I find that during hot summer days, they like that cool down feeling.

Thanks, will do that today.. it's really hot these days (around 27-30 degrees inside) and we don't have any ceiling fans... windows are always open!

Hi. I am new to the 'orchid owner industry'.
The roots below the plant in the centre turn yellow and rot, then a mold (? see pictures) that looks like a light brown sponge grow on them. It is as hard a an sponge as well. The leaves have some yellow spots and then start to dry out.
Any idea of what it is and what to do?
