No Pests!

I live in the far north, near Canada. Our climate really sucks! With the very few 70 degree sunny and blue skies days we grumble a lot up here.

As I was cleaning my houseplants and orchids today, bringing some in and leaving some outside just yet, it struck me. I saw one nasty ugly earwig, lots of teensy spiders, some of those teensy weensy red spiders, all sucked up in my vacuum.

Tonight it dawned on me, not one single mealy, aphid, or scale!!!!!

What's up with that? Well I never did get the orchids outside until mid July. July was cold, of course, August started out shivering 60's ! Then we got nice warm temps 70 to 80 and hit over 80 a couple days and lots of gully washers.

Rain? Let me tell you have we had rain, for 3 weeks, is it ever going to stop raining for more than 2 days going? Don't know that yet. Today was beautiful.

And no bugs on my orchids............let's see if there are some of nasty soil gnats in a few days.

Fingers crossed

Re: no bugs

My Dens and Catts have been outside all summer and I have seen no sign of any kind of bug in them either. Hope they stay that way til I bring them in

I found scale this spring shortly before taking everyone outside. I have been treating with 3 in 1 and hope to leave the scale behind when I bring everyone back to the greenhouse. The last 2 summers I had my plants outside with no bug problems at all.

The red mites are predator mites and they clean other mites off of the plants. Earwigs not only nibble on your plants, they also eat mealies, scale and aphids.

I had a soil gnat upstairs in one of the guest bedrooms. The 4 Hoya plants. Three of them had been repoted and the fuzzy leaf one is about 6 years old.

Drats!
