Leaves turning black and red

Hi all,

One of my Catt's leaf is turning black and another red. Is the black caused by baterial? I read the leaf turning red is nothing to be concerned about and that it is a sign of the maxium light it can handle.

What should I do? Cut of the leaves? Use Physan 20?

There is also new growth about 1 high.

Thanks for any advice.

Has it been placed in too much light? In sunburned tissue, opportunistic secondary bacterial/fungal infection can take place. Is the black area mushy and spreading? If so, cut it off immediately. If not, you can keep the plant under close observation.

The black is not mushy but thin and hard. I will keep an eye on it.

Since these are mostly old pseudobulbs, what would happen if i cut some (maybe half) of the leaves off?

Are they getting direct sunlight? That may be sunburn if it is. You certainly can cut off the damaged leaves and then sprinkle cinnamon on the cut end.
