Is it salvageable

My husband bought me a phal from the grocer. The medium was soaked and most of the roots were dead. I'm not a pro at this so I could use some help Pretty please. Should I just throw her out or keep her? Idk why I get attached to plants lol. I get sentimental lol. Why I can't find a home for my cats even though they keep peeing on everything If I'll keep them. I gotta do as much as I can for my p(h)als

Huh, that looks pretty much like the mini-phal I brought home from my daughter's a couple of months ago. I potted it up in coarse bark mix after trimming the mushy roots and now it has two new leaves. If you have green roots at all, there is definitely hope. Don't expect to see the wrinkled leaves recover, but the new ones will be fine.

Thx so much for responding. I really appreciate it. It only has the one root and a bit of another and only the three leaves. No new growth anywhere

It looks like a challenge, but it won't hurt to try, will it? I would soak it in a solution containing root stimulant, something like a kelp fertilizer or Dynagrow KLN. Pot it in a small pot and use the root solution to water until you see some new roots coming out.

Take a look at the "sphag and bag conditions" thread for a good discussion of helping a plant grow roots.

Don't thru her out just yet. She looks health for the most part. What you can try is mounting her and have the kids spray her 2 to 3 times a day with a spray bottle. Take yourself a good size stick or piece of wood and hang her upside down on it. Use fishing cord or something to tie her on there with just a little bit of Spag around her root system and between the board or stick. Keep her in filtered light not direct light. If you have fish you can use some of the water also. Use a little fertilizer in the spray bottle about 2 weeks after you hang up upside down on the stick. Let the kids take turns helping you keep her misted not drenched.

If you bring home a stick from outside makes sure you sterilize it first before you place the orchid on it. You can boil the stick or microwave it or even stick in the over on a low temperature for a while. This kills anything that maybe growing on the stick that you don't want close to your orchids.

I hope this helps.
