Growing White Spot on Orchid Leaf

This is my dendrobium orchid. I got it the 21st. This pic is from the 22nd. Notice the back/left leaf, nothing wrong...

Now this is from today. The spot has been slowly getting bigger, but I can't quite remember when it first appeared.

This is my first orchid, and I originally joined this forum last week just to learn how to take care of orchids so when I bought it I wouldn't kill it, but now I guess I need some extra help...

Orchid says: I'm too pretty to die~.

Did it get sun burned? It sure looks odd. I'll wait for the experts to give you advice on your Den. The rest of the plant look pretty good though.

I don't believe it gets any direct sunlight, though I've never had a chance to look at it every hour or whatever to see if a sliver of sun gets to it at some point in the day...

Edit: Also, it goes straight through the leaf except for where it's not quite solid white (still green-white) and some of the white spot feels different to the touch, like thinner or weaker leaf, sort of.

Looks like sunburn to me too. One sunburned leaf will not be significant for a nice plant like yours - enjoy! As noted by others - be careful to not give too much sun - sometimes plants that can normally take a fair amount of sun (like yours) will sunburn if they have been sheltered for some time and not given high light for awhile - they must now be slowly aclimated.

Ah, maybe that's it, even though it's in the shade it's still pretty close to the sun, and when I got it it was from a shaded area at Lowes, so maybe it was just too much. Maybe also because it's on the south side of my house. I can't keep it inside, but I can move it to the shaded north side of my house.

That's what my D kingianums looked like after this summer.

Recently in between the rains we had some sun, and again more white spots like those appeared.

Don't panic, generally those leaves will drop off with no ill effect to the plant.

That is a beautiful Den. Good luck with it. Soon you will be getting more orchids. They are like potato chips, you can't stop at one or two or....

yes, even a sliver of FL sun could do that to the plant if it's not used to it.... BTDT, can you tell?

Thanks all. I have moved my orchid to a shadier corner of the porch, hopefully it should do better there. And at least for the moment I should not be getting more... unless they're on sale for less than $7.50. Hmm. I think I'll go check at Lowes tomorrow LOL.

And tangers, I sure hope not. Hard enough taking 7 bettas to college, don't want to try taking 7 orchids!

Sometimes it takes a day or 2 for the burn to actually show up. It's possible that it could have gotten burned before you got it or even on the way home if it was in the car.

Orlando. Anyways, it did end up turning brown around the edges of the white spot, definitely sun burn. I tried moving it to a shadier spot, but then I find that spot definitely gets direct sun... in the morning... but the burn doesn't seem to be getting worse anymore, so I guess it's fine.
