Fluffy white mold treatment

Just repotted 3 phals, soaked it in physian before and this is my first time using a new mix of potting ingredients that I've just got. I noticed a week later that only one of them has white fluffy mold popping up on the roots while the other 2 doesnt. I've been reading its from the bark?

What can anyone tell me about this mold and would another soaking of physian along with soaking my new potting mix in physian and repotting that plant harm the plant seeing as it was soaked in physian just last week. Or does anyone have any other remedies and ideas?

Physan has killed of my roots before, so I wouldn't use it on the medium. I had this issue in several of my phal pots and I increased air and dried them out a bit and it went away. I hope this helps. I also treat my bamboo skewers with bleach or else I get it on them.

Alright, I've got the plant out of the potting mix and I'm letting the roots air dry. I'll physically wipe off the mold and let the roots dry some more and I'll repot once again with a fresh mix and see how things go.

What bark is it, Pat? If it's Orchiata, it might be a penicillium species, which will do no harm to the plants and actually kills other mold and fungi.

Jusr FYI, Penicillium species are widespread and worldwide. Although they certainly could grow on Orchiata, the 300 or so species grow on a huge variety of substrates, including other orchid media.

Pat, I'm curious why you soaked the roots in Physan? This should not be necessary.

If you feel the need to sterilize the orchiata before using it, try putting it in a big cooking pot, pour boiling water over it, keep it boiling on the stove for 10 - 15 minutes, then cool completely.

Thanks, I dont think my whole batch is contaminated because my other two phals have not developed the mold. Things have been iffy in my collection since I'm working out of town all week and only get to check on my plants on the weekend while my lady watches over them during the week.
