Dried up, yellowing leaf

Hey guys.
I'm guiding my mother on how to care for her orchids.
She bought 3 and almost killed them all by not watering enough and not keeping them in a warm room.
I gave them a clean up and repotted them a couple of months ago.
she now keeps them in a warm bright room and waters them regularly.

The worst one lost all it's anchoring roots so I've instructed her to keep it moist at the base (in the bark meduim) to encourage root growth (looked it up - did the whole spaghnum moss thing...)
Anyway it seems to be doing better and growing a health looking leaf.
But one of it's older leaves turned yellow almost over night..
I cut it off (see attached pic).
Is this normal? (They are Phalaenopsis orchids)

Yes, it is completely normal for a phalaenopsis to lose it's oldest leaf. They do this to conserve and redirect energy. You only need to worry when it isn't the bottom leaf or they start losing more than one in a short period of time.
