Bugs in my orchid medium

These are little white bugs that I only see when I water the plant. And they only appear crawling around frantically before going back deeper into the pot.

I have pictures of the medium ... It looks like my leaves are starting to dry up and limp. not sure why....

What's my next move? right now I have the plant on the counter " airing out"

Many thanks.

Hello they might be what I just had fungus gnats. I can't really see them from your pics, but are they like worms? They feed on broken down medium. I just did a complete repot and they are gone now. They do feed on root tips so it is best to get rid of them. Goodluck!

maybe it's just fungusgnats. I would personally use a yellow sticky trap to get rid of them. I am personally oposed to the use of chemicals (thankfully neonicotinoids even got banned in Europe). Actually there are yellow and blue sticky traps and they are effective to both yellow and blue light atracted insects. You can get rid of the majority of bugs by these friendly stickytraps without the use of dangerous chemicals.

Google springtails - if they are fast and scurry back into the media, it sounds like springtails.

look like fungus gnats, they love to live in a sour medium, mix up a 1/2 teaspoon of common garden lime to a gallon of water and just pour through the mix, plants and all.
This should bring the PH up and make it uncomfortable for the gnats to live
Plus the lime will do wonders for the plants roots and bring up the ph to a better level for the roots to grow in!

They don't looks like the worm pictures that I see that resemble fungus gnats... But these things seem to have legs and are crawling around the media.
Rather, they are moving around with purpose. I see 6 legs and 2 antenae

It sounds like fungus gnats to me too. Your poll options are kind of limited, but if you've got old, broken down media and fungus gnats, repot it into fresh media. Boiling doesn't sterilize anything so I wouldn't waste your time, it'll just break down the media even further.

I would just repot it in a new media.

Then if you can find this Pinguicula, grow it near your orchids..it loves to digest fungus gnats and grows nice blooms too

Springtails.

Note that not all springtails spring… If it's small, whitish, with antennas and very active, eventually springy, no wings, only in the substrate, it is it.

No harm to come but the substrate is decaying enough so they can feed.
