brown spot on Phalaenopsis

I have a large brown spot on a leaf of one of my phalaenopsis. Should I cut it off or leave it alone. Thanks for the advice!

The first picture is the front of the leaf, second is the back of it!

Welcome blee026! It's always nice to see another Californian join the forum!

That spot looks like it might be sunburn. Has the plant been exposed to light coming through a window? The winter sun can be pretty bright at times and can build up heat quickly. If the brown part is not spreading, I'd guess it is nothing to worry about. If it is growing, it is a whole different ball game!

yes, we just brought it 1 week ago from home depot it was a little bit brown to begin with. It is facing north and does face the sun for maybe 1-2 hours. thank you very much, will do! Just sniped it off. After observing it, the backside of the second leaf is brown too and it seems to be on the backside of the third leaf

If it feels mushy, cut the leaf off well below the brown pot as it promotes bacterial rot.
If it's just a dry patch, then.... leave it for now but keep a close eye on it.

Just re-read your 2nd post.... Ummmm, I'm afraid it looks like a frost bite or indeed a sun burn. I guess, the same principle applies to all the leaves affected.

Good luck!

Cheers!
Lilia
