Black tips on the ends of roots?

Hello,
I am relativity new to growing orchids, about two years, and want to take it to the next level. So far I have only been dealing with phals. Most are the home depot variety and occasionally I adopt orphan phals from friends. Something that I have noticed while removing them from their Moss pots are black tips on the end of the roots. Here is a pic of one that I pulled earlier today. I cut most of what I thought were dead roots off.
What about these tips? Should I be using a fungicide or something? I am not going organic and I don't mind nuking bugs or fungus.
Thanks,
Travis

Tried to fix the title but cant. Pin is supposed to be on.

Black tips can be a result of conditions that are too wet, too dry, a salt issue, and/or from damage to the root tips (bruising).

If there is live tissue beyond the black then I usually leave it be otherwise I do tend to snip it off. I've never sprayed or used anything on it.

Getting the orchid into new, fresh medium, trying not to damage the roots in the process, and fixing any culture issues will typically do the trick for resolving the issue.
