My first attempt at mounting

I've had this piece of driftwood forever. I can't even remember where it came from. I have been contemplating using it to mount, and realized this mini catt really desperately needed transplanting. Voila! A perfect match. Even better, there's a hole in the wood right at the thickest part of the 'chid roots, so I can water and cover it, and tie it, from both sides, and it can root on both sides. I am pleased with the result. I DO need to get something to use other than pink dental floss, tho!!

Mounts

Good looking mount , I bought a roll of floral wire to use when mounting, also I drill holes in my wood to help tie in different directions other than round and round the sides.

congrats you have done a pretty good job
the only thing that I would look at doing is remove a little of the sphag at the top of the orchid its just a little to high in my opinion
I would take about half an inch of sphag away from the top
just so that the new growths don't get to wet I have seen this myself and the new growths will rot

other than that well done

Looks good.

I use pieces of nylon stockings to secure the plant to the mount (thanks Anton). It doesn't cut into the plant.

Thanks everyone, and yes, Fred, looking at the picture especially I was thinking too that the moss came a little too high. I think I'll go get some floral wire and maybe use some tiny staples for the wire, but I am a little attached to that pink floss! And thanks April/Anton for the nylon stocking idea, altho they are scarce in this house! I'll have to ask my daughter-in-law!
