Have Trunk....need suggestions

I very new to orchids, but somehow that hasn't stopped me in wanting to acquire more. My only problem is i live in a very small place and already have tons of tropical plants ( i actually have about half of my tropical plant collection living at my workplace due to the limited space i have at home)

What i am wondering is would the largest trunk in the picture be a candidate for mounting an orchid?

it is a Corn plant (dracena) trunk over 2 ft tall and about 3" wide, that has a small hole in the top of it, it is near an east window in a large 12" pot, there is one LIVE trunk still and a peace lily nested at the base.

The light conditions are currently quiet low (which the current plants do not mind) but could be adjusted. Still a low light plant would do best.

Humidity can be adjusted ( although i live on the Wet...er West coast of Canada....so i would think i may not need to worry too much about it)

If anyone has any ideas about what orchid may work for this spot, i'd love to hear them.

mounting

As I recall thst is a very soft wood which would decay rapidly, a harder wood would more favorable also cork or tree fern plack or pole. I would use coconut husk to wrap around it or spag sparingly. Grapevine is also good. It will save space but the down side is watering more often no matter what you mount on. Have fun, species really love it.

I had a dracena die in my yard and it totally decayed in 6 months. You should pick something different for your mount.

I recently ran some experiments on Cattleya mounts with and without sphag. I was really testing my growth hormones but these results were a bonus.

Of ten Cattleya cuttings placed on mounts 7 flowered within 4 weeks of mounting. The results were so spectacular that I am re-running the test.

The flowers developed whether the mounts used sphag or bare root, but the flowers on the bare root mounts lasted only about 2 weeks. This I believe to be the result of insufficient water to keep the flowers from drying out. The plants are still doing fine. mounts with sphag (and I just a lot) seem to give me a full flowering period.

I have a lot of experience with mounted Oncidium but only a few blooming size Cattleya. I will keep you posted as more flowers are produced and conclusions can be drawn.

Low light conditions would be perfect for a phal. Since the dead corn plant canes are very soft, be sure to attach the plant to a cane you don't mind eventually losing.

It is a cleaver idea and the cane may surprise you and last longer than expected. Be sure to take pics when the project is complete.
