I didn't have a pot small enough, so ...

I was re-mounding my big neo last night, and a part of it separated itself. I'm still not sure how that happened, but there's still plenty of the big plant left, so oh well. But what to do with the little part, which has good roots and a new growth? I had no pot tiny enough ... but I did had a piece of wood I bought a few weeks ago specifically to mount an orchid on if I ever had occasion to do so. Here's what happened:

More/less moss?

awesome! If you can keep it damp enough, I wouldn't put any more on. It looks great! If you find yourself having trouble keeping up with the watering, the I would put a little more on. They do ok in a huge mound of it, afterall!

I pocket-mound all my neos; that's why I wasn't sure how much moss to put on the mount. It's small enough I can just dunk it in a cup!

Thanks!

That looks great! I might put just a bit more moss on but see how it does first.

Two for one!

It sure looks cute. Just experiment for a couple of days. You'll be able to tell soon enough when it needs more moss or not.

I've had my neo mounted for a couple of months, now--It is only on a thin, thin bed of moss and it is doing great! I have the cork cut for a second mount and I don't plan on using any more sphag than I did the first time. If your humidity is fairly decent, I don't think you'll have a problem with the moss you have now

How cute. I love it mounted like that. I bet it's going to do great on that piece of wood. Tiny orchids are the cutest things.

Very cute. I see pieces of driftwood on the beach a lot. (Atlantic side) Maybe I'll start picking some up and can offer them out to any one interested. We just hauled home two pieces of 8-10 foot bamboo we found. One skinny, one fat. We put a piece up between two trees a couple of years ago to hang plants on. I'm pondering what to do with these new finds. I'd like to cut big holes in the fat one and mount a three foot section vertically, or slightly angled to a tree and fill the holes with orchids or bromliads.
