I see a beautiful orchid mounted on a beautiful piece of driftwood. I want some of what the rest of you have been smokin!

Solay, He's in the first shot. He's in the middle of the moss--in profile--and he has his hand/paw/foot up to his chin. A bit of imagination helps...

Hey, that Bulbo looks better than its siblings. If you get it to flower before mine, please post a pic. I have no idea what the flowers look. A member from the SFOS at the S.F. orchid show (2006) gave a big division to my youngest daughter. I gave a piece to my mom. She hasn't been able to make it bloom, yet. By the way, Bulbos like water and to stay moist.

I see it!!! Pat, you were looking at the actual plant while we are looking at the wood. No wonder I didn't see it. OK. It kinda looks like him now. Just need to not see the two leaves on the bottom and then you see his arm. LOL!!! Arlene, I doubt mine will bloom first. I think it looks the same as when you gave it to me. Thanks for the advice on the watering. I'll have to keep an eye it then since the mounts drys up pretty fast.

Yes, I guess it could be the Loch Ness or a spatula. LOL!!! Thanks you April. Can't wait to see what the blooms will be like. Of course Arlene is the one who gave it to me. Sooo... Thanks Arlene!

I noticed that when I do mounts at shows that people always find images in the mounts. It is a lot of fun and costs nothing extra. I would be curious how the Bulbo does. I have never tried mounting them.

I watered the mount yesterday and by this morning it was still moist but not wet. Looks like I'll need to water every day to keep the Bulbo moist. It's OK since I mist all my mounts daily anyway. Jerry, are Bulbos not mounted normally? I guess it would take more upkeep to keep it constantly moist. I picked it to mount due to the way it grows in a spreading manner. Yup, I see a spoon from far away Damien.

Solay bulbos do great mounted. They will wander all over your mount as they grow. Even the ones I have in baskets are going to end up looking like mounts because they grow through the slats, out the bottom, etc and just end up being a bulbo ball. Brooke |

Cindy -- You're welcome! Cheryl -- Tolumnias do best mounted. (Oh, I think I answered that on the other thread. LOL)

I know oyu've onlt done 2 mounts (as you've mentioned) but you seem to have a knack for it, choosing visually interesting pieces to mount on and positioning the plant in a naturalistic way. If you're not careful you might become our mount-master!

Gee...thanks Kevin. I think mounting is the easy part. Now getting the orchid to grow and bloom on it is another thing all together. We'll see how it goes. Can't be a mount-master if they all die after. Ha! Ha! Ha! Then I can be a "mountster" instead.

I like it, it does kinda look like a spoon!

Very nice. Artistic. I can see a turtle, or a goose. A leg less one. I have some driftwood, maybe I will try your idea. Would a basic Phal make it being mounted that way? I just bought a healthy, but bloomed out one on clearance that needs better potting. |
| ||||
|
Hi Imartiny. Thanks and nice to meet you. Yes you can mount a Phal. Other geeks have done it and you might want to check out the threads on it. Phals are mounted upside down to mimic how it grows in nature from what I understand. Post a pic. of your mount when you finish. I'm sure it'll come out great.

It looks good, except I have trouble with the Spag. because when I use it the roods generally rot off and no more plant. I would like to know if anyone knows where I can find come cactis wood, I would like to try to mount on it. Your mount looks real good.
