mounted Epidendrum

Here is the story about my mounted Epidendrum... Everything began last year when I got one rootless cutting. Soon after it started making keiki... I mounted keiki and you can see the development through the year... On the last two pics you can see the roots tied on the wood naturally... Plant now looks bigger and I will keep you updated on growth and (maybe)flowering of this chid...

Thank you all!

I am so proud on this Epi... This is one of my first orchids... It survived cold storm, 7 days without water in summer, and really seems that nothing can kill it! I think that it will be for a while until it blooms but I can wait and see this thing growing!

Reedstemmed Epidendrums make poor mounted plants because they get very tall. And if you don't give them very high light, they can double their normal height trying to produce enough leaf area to be able to support flowers. Good luck with you unusual mountie.

Thats what I like to see.. Orchid roots clinging to bark! I could spend hours (I do) looking at every root, and observing the 'decisions' they make.

Yes, I noticed that... I keep it in very, very high light (on the edge of burning). Leaves are reddish but it seems to like it, it is making one strong, new growth right now.

Oh... Same here... I was very surprised when removed the moss and seen all those roots tied for the bark.

This plant was left for 10 days without water while I was at my grandmother and today i saw that it is very dehydrated (wrinkled leaves)... I think it will survive. I watered it and I expect leaves to plump by tomorrow..

Aleksa, Go with your instincts! If it starts getting too big, you can change. I know that you have "the touch for orchids"- I've seen it in other posts, etc.- Good luck... Keep us posted!!!

Aleksa, instead of sending your plant off to a relative, water it, then put it into a sealed clear baggie, one from a cleaners establishment when your plant gets really tall, and you can leave it in moderately low light for a week easily, and no one will do something stupid to your plant.

Thank you all for your support! Just as I supposed, plant has plumped up by today. Leaves are much firmer and crispy. I am sure that there will be no set backs...

Amazing plants... I love them. One phal is in very very poor condition but today I noticed flower spike.. Ofcourse It will be removed. Plant has keiki so I'm not worried!

It's time for report about my Epidendrum!

This plant had one accident this summer. I have plunged it in water one day and I forgot about the plant so It was in water whole night. Tomorrow plant was almost all rotten. Every new growth was black and rot was spreading very fast. I removed all infected parts. More than a half of plant was infected and only one old growth was left. The plant stagnated for few weeks and started growing 2 new growths. They grew fast and now It is healthy again! I will post the pictures soon.

Oh, just tell me about that... That day I lost 3 of 4 mounted orchids... Only Epidendrum survived... I hate myself!! It is incredible how rot can spread quickly, in one night!
