Mounting help/ Directions?

I want to mount a few of my orchids and I understand the process of putting the orchid on the wood, attaching it and covering the roots with the moss. The Question that I have is;

What kind of wood?
Where can I get the wood?
Does the wood have to be treated or starelized first, and if so then how?

Excited to do mounts!!!

Really, the more rot resistant wood, the better. Cedar, white oak, walnut are rot resistant for example. Although most types of wood will fufill the basic purpose of mounting, many people use cork bark or grapewood with much success. I wouldnt treat the wood with chemicals that might harm the plant, so dont use any pre-treated wood. Sterilizing the wood is a waste of time, because it will just get un-sterilized in a short time anyways. You may want to use an orchid-safe fungicide on the mount from time to time though. Heat treating the wood would help the longevity of the mount, but this is hard to do with out burning it of course...

Reba I like to use cork bark for my mounts that need to dry quickly or completely between waterings, such as mini Catts. I'm finding it doesn't work as well for Phal species who like a little moisture.
