From what I can see it looks pretty good! Did you use any moss? If not, I suggest sticking some little pieces of moss in between the roots

They look good but I prefer to put a wad of moss over the roots to help retain moisture while they are trying to get attached to the wood

I agree on the sphag over the roots to help retain moisture.

Your phal mount needs to have the crown and leaves grow down to keep moisture out of the crown to cause crown rot. You can get crown rot on a mounted phal - ask me how I know :>)

If these are your first attempts at mounting, you did a great job!

Very neat mounts. I can't wait to see those bloom.

Thanks for sharing.

They look good. I use moss on my mounts, but only to get them started. Yours seem to be well on their way. If you are misting enough or otherwise have sufficient humidity, you shouldn't need to add moss. Not saying yes or no here; your specific environment should be the decision maker. Good job!

I think the mounts look great, quite naturalistic. As you may or may not know, mounted orchids usually do better with higher humidity, around the 70-80% range depending on the orchid. This reduces water loss through the leaves. Most of us don't have humidity that high which is why we use a bit of sphagnum moss around the roots of our mounted orchids. If your humidity is good your new mounts will be fine as they are with the roots bare, if your humidity is lower you might want to consider adding a layer of medium over the roots.

I believe your mounts will make quite an attractive display when your orchids start to flower! I'm looking forward to seeing that!

They look great! I too, use a little sphagnum moss, because I have trouble keeping the humidity up in the winter. I live in a whole different environment from you, though. Keep us posted on their progress!

I found two beautiful buds opening on one of my mounted Catts, when I pulled it forward it just came off of the cork mount, it was one of those that I had used sphagnum as a base and had not changed. The reason it came off was because the Sphagnum moss had broken down and looked like mud, the plant had no roots on it, I am now hoping it is not too late to salvage the plant. That is why I shy away from Sphagnum moss.

Oooooo, Dave. That doesn't sound good. I use a little sphag near the roots for moisture. I hate sphagnum moss too, as a rule. Good luck. Maybe if you use a tiny bit of sphag, and keep it watered pretty regularly, you might get some new roots.

Nice mounting. I like them both. I use moss cause it gets pretty dry here and even then it gets bone dry in a day. Maybe where you are it's more humid? Can't wait to see it grow.

I know about the dryness of northern because I use to live in southern Oregon, Klamath Falls and it was dry. Could see California from my yard.

I have had a great deal of sucess with cocoa nut fiber so I continue to us it. I have about 75 to 100 mounted and growing well, specie Catts really seem to grow better that way. I had used moss to start with but after loosing a few I removed all the moss except it was under some that I could not get to and this was one of them.
