mounting mini's

I just received 2 mini's and my neighbor had a old branch from her fish tank, so i am wondering would it be alright to mount them on it or should i use a different type of mounting material. Its just a type of hard wood, not to sure what kind. The mini's that i want to mount are a neofinetia falcata and angraecum didieri. Any thoughts on mounting them would be great, just wanted to put them on the same log i have. Just not really sure if I should.
