Mounted Dendrobium

A question for those who have mounts. I have a Dendrobium that I got last
year that is mounted on a piece of wood. I have two questions for you:

1. The roots have established themselves into the wood fairly well. Do I remove
the fishing line that was originally tied around the mount when it was first done?

2. The outer strips of bark on the wood are staring to peel off from watering
over time. Do I need to attach the current wood to another larger piece or
remount the entire plant itself?
Enclosed are pics.

Thanks

are you sure the plant is firmly gripping the mount? if not, leave the fishing line until it can support its own weight.

I would just attach the whole thing to a larger piece rather than stress the plant again.

If it has totally grown into the wood it's ok to remove the fishing line, but I would reiterate Palito's question since it looks like a top heavy plant, althought I might be less inclined to worry about the bark peeling. Is it all that severe? I couldn't tell from the pics.

Thanks for the replies. The bark peeling is only the surface bark, but more is
peeling off every week.

I mount thousands of plants.

Your will find removing the fishing line is not easy. You can cut off the visible lines if you do not like the way it looks.

Dens are top heavy and get worst. You will have to support the weight eventually.

You can not remove the plant from the wood so attaching the piece to a larger piece is your only choice. Use brass or stainless screws sinc ou do not want rust - it looks bad and is not good for the plant.

this shows with mounting it is not just about ataching it to a piece of wood. I use only grapevine since it has a life span of 10-15 years for orchid (with the bark removed first) whereas pine has a life span of only 2-3 years. Oak and cypress are other good choices
