New mounts - hope I did them justice

Thank you, -k-, for my beautiful new mounts. It took a while to decide what I wanted to do, but they kind of chose themselves
Please take a look, and tell me what you think.

This is an Enc. Green hornet

Angraecum didieri

Sedirea japonica (not my project plant)

Super nice job, Brigitte. The last one is really cool. And I especially like Encyclias mounted.

-k-'s mounts are awesome! I bought a couple from somewhere else...I haven't even used them yet. I don't know what I was thinking!

Looks great! I just got my second shipment of mounts from Keith and I love them. I don't know if it's his mounts or what, but my orchids I have mounted using them have responded better than anything I could have hoped for. Also, not realizing the size of a couple(the pictures make it hard to judge even with sizes listed) I cut them into 2 which gives me more flexibility to mount orchids.

Your didieri has two buds!! Lucky you!

My only suggestion is that I'd try to get those leaves out from under the sphag. I'd worry about the leaves staying too wet that way.

I think you're right about choosing the mounts. Sometimes they just "fit".

It's the extra love put into making them!!!

So glad to see them go to good homes and get all these wondeful plants mounted to them! I'll have to post some of mine, the root growth I have on them is crazy, they fill out all the nooks and crannies, it's really amazing to watch what the roots do!

Thanks for the suggestion. I took care of that detail just a few minutes ago. And yes, it has two buds...they were there when I bought it at the orchid fair in July. They haven't budged, but I'm a patient woman..

-k-, thank you! Your opinion really matters to me, since they are your creations, and I hope that I don't screw them up.

I can't wait to see your mounts! Maybe I/we can get some inspiration from the master...

Thanks again! I'll probably be needing more soon.

They look wonderful!!
I'm going to get some more from him also.... Just waiting now for stuff to calm down after his flooding and getting re organized over there. Will be needing them for spring when the new roots start sprouting again so. Maybe this coming month if he's ready

Hopefully tomorrow will be sunny and I take some photos, my flash stinks on my digital... and overall I just don't like the camera! Thanks for the kind words, working with grapewood has it's challenges but it's actually a great medium to work with. It's actually a pretty involved, I take large pieces and scale them down with a good ole regular hand saw, I could use a circular saw but due to how solid the pieces are I typically have to cut on angles first. Once they're cut I even out the cut ends and then super heat them adding friction with another tool and give it a nice smooth polished finish. Then the fun begins; I shave, drill, cut, sand.. over and over, adding new grooves, adding to existing ones...etc... The wood has many shades of color and when heated and smoothed you can draw out the deeper colors..too much though and it burns and chars; I'll do this to certain areas that I think will look cool or extend darker areas. Once I'm done making all the additional holes I add the friction and heat again to smooth things out... Then they get soaked, treated and sundried!
As crazy as all thats seems it's actually relaxing for me!!!

-k-. they are beautiful, I understand about the relaxing...nothing like just doing what feels right, knowing in your mind what you want to create

I am so glad to hear you say that, -k-. I spend a lot of time in the woods and am planning on robbing quite a few of her creations soon.
