Another Mounting Question

This weekend I mounted two Brassavola Nodosas. This morning before I left for work, I hung them outside underneath my covered front porch. I gave them some water too. My question is, it was down to 61 degrees this morning. Is this ok for this type of orchid? They also won't be getting any direct sun light.

Mine is outdoors and it definitely is getting cooler at night here, low 60's for sure and mine is fine. Just be sure if you water it you do it in the morning so it can dry out before nightfall. Mine also gets dappled or filtered sunlight parts of the day and that helps dry it out a bit before night time.

Thank you Synda. Will their exposure to a little cool breeze in the mornings help them to bloom?

Brassavola nodosa is not a plant that blooms in response to temperature changes. In nature, they rarely see temps below the mid-to upper 60's.

Feed and water it well, and give it lots of light, and it will bloom fine.

Thank you Ray. I am happy to learn something new today about Brassavola Nodosas.

Hi Michael,

I will borrow my daughter's camera and snap a few shots. They are my first mounts and I hope I mounted them properly. No blooms yet but maybe soon.

Vanessa

It's Brassavola nodosa (note capitalization). The species names are not capitalized.

If you read a culture sheet for this orchid (or generally for the Cattleya Alliance fo which this is a member) you'll see they are intermediate growers. That means they're ok for temps down to 55F at night. Youll also notice they are higher light orchids. I recommend an east window where they will get a little bit of early morning direct sun.
