My new mounts

Hi all! Well, I got these amazing mounts from -K-, and I didn't really know what I was going to do with them. I finally decided which orchids I was going to mount, but the challenge was matching the plant to the mount.

Here are my attempts at mounting two of newest 'chids - an Angraecum didieri and an Lc Mini Song 'La Primera Morada'.

First up - the Ang
decent roots

gorgeous mount

final product

I'm hoping that, if I do this right, someday there will be a trail of roots running down the mount and maybe, just maybe, a couple of blooms!

Up next, the Mini Song
I had this little piece of grapewood, and I thought this would be a great fit.

Good roots

Finished product

On the 2nd one Lc Mini Song are you standing this mount like its pictured or hanging it ? If hanging it you may need to move the plant down just a tad so the leaf tips aren't hitting the top of what its hanging from. But if its going to sit like that as a standing piece it should be fine.
The first one I'm curious if others will say more moss is needed or not to help keep the roots moist a bit between waterings. How humid is it where you are ? Here we aren't very humid so I cover the roots when I mount the new ones grow over the outer area or put just a bit more of a pad under it with the roots over the moss to help keep them moist between waterings....but this is what I'd have to do here because of how dry we get here.
The both look great though I wonder where to get grape wood.
Let's see what others say

Did you mount the Catt with the newest growth growing up or down? You need to provide enough of the mount for the future growths to attach or they will be dangling in mid air.

The dideri looks great!

For the Angraecum didieri, Emmaye mentioned the roots. Later, I will go out and take a picture of my didieri, the roots are so long and all over the place and it does fine. The longest root is almost a foot long, most of the others are exposed or clinging to the mount with not moss around them. I try not to let mine get too dried out though. As for the other, Kat has a point about giving it enough room for future growth.

Hi Emmaye! I have the Mini Song standing instead of hanging right now. It may be risk in earthquake country, but I kind of like it.

For the Ang., I have a pretty decent mound of moss on it right now, and in the sunroom where it sits I have been running between 50%-75% humidity. I have almost all of my 'chids in there, and they are all on pebble bowls with water and I keep a bucket of water under the table - along with a small room fan for circulation.

Oh, and I live in Oxnard, CA, which is right on the coast. I am literally 5 mins from the beach. Supposed to be pretty good for orchid growing...we'll have to see about that!

I did mount it right at the top of the little mount, but I can move it down. That's why this board has been my saving grace / enabling place. I go out and buy a bunch of stuff I have never heard of, thinking I can grow it, then everyone has to help me with it!!

Thanks, I love pics of mounts. I really like the way the plants look...so natural once they get acclaimated. I have some mounting material, I brought back from S. FL, (some cork bark and a piece of tree fern), and I'm just waiting for the right prospects to come my way to use 'em!
My first mount is doing pretty good and I'll post some pics of it as soon as it shows a bit more noticeable gorwth.

Tony
