How long to attach itself?

Hi all!

Just curious as to how long orchids take to attach themselves to mounts?
My first, looks kind of weird with all the stockings but Im hoping it will work

I shoved some sphagum moss in there with them.

Thanks!

It depends on the orchid, how often it goes through a root growth cycle, and how good your conditions are.

When I mount my Phallie species I mount when they are small plants, in the growing season the start to attach themselves within a few days, I would use nylon fishing line and tie them on with.
Plus I do not cover the roots, they grow and attach quicker this way.
A big flowering plant like you have could take months to put out new roots and hopefully the attach themselves quickly

The new roots are what attatch to the mount. Depending on how fast your orchid grows roots determines how long it will be attatched.
I agree with Ron, using not blooming and healthy plants would attatch faster because they are devoloping roots, not bud/blooms

Many factors inhibit root growth. It varies on what type of orchid you have. Feeding by dunking the root system will help encourage the new roots to grow a little faster. Make sure you are using a good orchid growth fertilizer at half strength. I like Dyna-Gro and Grow More. For mounted plants I see better results from using a liquid fertilizer, like the Dyna-Gro. Good Luck!

Yes, currently I have over 40 mounts made up ready to go in spring, I am going to mount all my species on them. Should look lovely when they flower, the rest are on tree-fern mounts

Hi all, update here on my first mount. I was wondering if you guys can offer any advice.

I took the spaghum and stockings off and decided to use fishing line instead.
Im not so sure about these roots as they were this way when i got it. Are they supposed to be this type/color? It was in bloom about a month ago when i bought it and the flowers finally fell off yesterday. I soaked it last night for about 30 minutes with some Superthrive. Any recommendations?
Am i doing something wrong being a noob and all?

It looks ok. The new lead you've got will eventually put out new roots, and they will grow and attach the plant to the mount. Only thing to be careful of, root tips are sensitive, and if there is movement of the plant, the root tips won't want to attach.

So make sure the plant is secure.

The plant looks a little dry, it might be the pic. How often are you watering it?
