Bark as a "pot''?

Can i attach an orchid to this bark which is about 1 1/2 ' feet by stapling roots to it and hang it? This way the roots would always be visible, spray mist it when dry. Of course I am talking indoors and perhaps in a bright, shaded area on my patio during the heat and humidity of the summer.

Lots of us grow orchids mounted on a piece of bark of various types. It's called "mounting" and is wuite a proper way of growing orchids. You must carefully select the orchid you mount because not every orchid is suitable to mounting in in-home conditions. You say, "...the roots would always be visible, spray mist it when dry." but not every orchid likes to dry out between waterings. Do a bit of research and read some of the threads on mounting here in the forum. We have a whole section on mounting. And ask lots of questions.

Also I'm not sure stapling is the best method of securing the plant to the bark.
Many people use fishing line, which has much less of a risk of damaging the roots than a staple.

Oh goodness, no, Flib is right, dont' staple the roots, you'll completely snap them off or crush them. You have to secure the plant with mesh or fish line then after a few years the plant will have grown new roots that will have attached themselves to the mount. Do some research on mounting orchids and then bring us any questions you might have.

Some people really like panty hose as well because they are much softer.
