It looks like a good piece for a mount for sure. Is it hard-wood? Softer woods tent to rot. I agree with you that an attractive mount starts with an attractive piece of wood. Good Save! IMHO either of these would make a good candidate. Personally I'd go with the dendrobium because the Brassavola can grow very quickly (in relative orchid terms) once established and might outgrow the mount where as the den is a slower grower. BTW Brassavola Little stars is a hybrid so all words in the name should be capitalized: Brassavola Little Stars where as Dendrobium aggregatum is a species orchid and the species name should not be capitalized: Dendrobium aggregatum. You had them just switched around. Furthermore, Den aggregatum is the wrong name for this plant. the correct name is: Dendrobium lindleyi.

The wood is oak. I was leaning toward the Brass. because I have two that are potted. And a little one mounted. (I'd mount one of the potted ones) The Dens; one is potted, one is mounted. And a baby one from Diana. Thanks for the corrections. Makes me chuckle. I made notes. But I can't guarantee I'll ever get all that right. |

I've not ventured into a dockrillia. Just read about them here. I'm undecided on who to mount. But thanks for the input. I love the natural look of a mount. But they are more labor intensive. But I keep making them. |

Sweet! Can't wait to see the plants that get that lucky new home! I just uncovered a nice size piece of drift wood that I had soaked and put away and since forgoten about till. I mounted a phal and a fern! Will be posting some photo's of it soon.

That's a nice save! I wish I had the room to have more mounts, as they're so pretty. Whatever you decide, it will be beautiful, I'm sure.

I found the rest of the fire wood in the garage and looks like a few cool pieces. It is not your typical cut up wood. When I get back into town I'll have to pick through it. If it can stand up on it's own that is best. I'm getting too many hangers and now with winter weather I'm finding problems on where to put them all. So maybe I can do a Brassavola and a Den. lindleya. How do you pronounce that?? Neither Brass bloomed for me. I was a bit disappointed. Unless they will still do something this season. I've got a spike on my one mounted Den lindleya and am excited. It will be my first bloom. It didn't bloom last year, but I didn't ease up on watering. |
