I wish all my 'chids were this clingy!

This Bro. Jamaicensis took to it's mount like a fish in water...I wish I could get the rest of my 'chids to do this! Would LOVE to have everything mounted...

Isn't that great???? I just love it when the roots take off on a mount. I think the secret is to mount the orchid when it is in a root building mode. I never mount something that is struggling; mounting just makes it worse. Then again, there are just orchids that love being mounted and the only way to find out is to try it!

Ya know, I know I'm not the brightest bulb on the light bar...that seems so simple when you say it, but it never even occurred to me!

One more for my bag o' tricks...thanks!

I love how the roots just go through the bark like that. If I lived somewhere like you and Phalpal lives I would probably have all mounts too. I love them I have one and it is hard to keep here. Do they have any houses there? I want to move to Florida

It looks happy all right. I have found that once they cling, they are easier to care for. Or keep hydrated, I should say.

OL55 - you bet there are houses to buy down here! It's a buyers market, for sure... that said James and I would love to move about 30 minutes north of here (Fort Lauderdale) so he can have a far shorter daily commute. BUT, we can't possibly sell our house right now so we'll just have to gut it out. As a life-long midwesterner, I find southern FL very different...and usually not in a good way! But I love the heat and humidity so one has to weigh the goods and the bads...

And I agree, Lynne. All of my mounted plants that are reasonably well established are doing pretty darned good...unfortunately I have far more plant still waiting to take that first step on their own. Silly plants... Of course, it could be all about technique... I should watch a few demos on how to mount various species and see how to do it RIGHT! Tons of opportunities at the various gardens and such, just got to get myself there!

Ahh I wish I lived in a warmer climate sometimes so I could grow my orchids outside like that. Can't do anything like that in Nebraska.
