Mount Wall

OK. I went and did it again. I'm expecting three more orchid orders soon. Two from e-bay and one from AngelStreet. Also toying with a possible order from OrchidsbyHauserman too. They are all having a 20-25% off summer sale. The only problem is my green house is so crowded and full.

Last Sunday was sooo hot which meant my husband won't be stepping outside. Too busy watching Tiger Woods anyway. So I did it all by myself sweating in the heat while trying to figure out how to do it. I've been wanting to make a mounting wall like Anton's and now here it is!

Not the prettiest but it sure helped more organize all the mounted chids and provide a little more space. I love all the ideas I get from this forum. Thanks!!!

Ooooh, Solay, Isn't eBay terrible?

I somehow managed to get a few (15) more myself. After seeing the Cattlianthe Varut Startrak you got instead of the Lc. Star Treck one, I decided to buy one with Cn. Varut Startrak as a parent. And then I somehow managed to get hooked on blue orchids....

Also, whatever you do, don't go to Carmela Orchids since they have a show special on right now and 2 1/2" pots are 3.00 ea if you buy 20 or more, free shipping.. .called Online Orchid Show Special No. 1-FREE SHIPPING. I did, and I'm going to be sorry when they get here...

Love the mount wall, trying to figure out how to do that in the kitchen.

I think it's time to start planning a greenhouse.....

Thank you. I liked the way it came out. More space is always good.

Dian, now you have me wondering. Is this a e-bay seller? $3 is a great deal.

Solay, that looks nice. Did you do that in your greenhouse? Or build something separate? I am really needing to do something to organize our plants.
I did have to chuckle as soon as I started to read "OK, I went and did it again."
I've got a few whatnots almost ready to send your way. Will you have time??

I think your mount wall is GREAT!!! Good use of space. It answers the question: what do you so when you run out of bench space? Climb the walls!

Solay, I told you not to look. They are on eBay (peaandshel) but this deal is directly from their website.... Orchid Growers - Hakalau, HI - Carmela Orchids, they are the ones who have all those orchids for 12.00/blooming size and 25 plugs and flasks. They are mostly mericlones, but they have some real beautiful orchids, if you don't mind waiting a few years..... DON'T LOOK, NONONONONONo.....

I was only looking to buy a Dendrobium laevifolium after seeing it on one of the threads but as usual ended up buying everything else but that. It's like going to the supermarket for eggs and end up coming home with 6 bags of groceries and forgeting the eggs. Sheesh!

Now I'm going to have to put in another order at Hauserman's for the laevifolium and I have to get more than one orchid just to make the shipping worth it. Not that I'm complaining mind you.

Imartiny, I always have time for orchids! Thanks.

I built it in the G/H. I used left over 2x2 wood from my shade house and attached them to the metal beams in the greenhouse. The I drilled more holes a long the wood and attached the chicken wire to the wood with wire twisties. You can see the white of the painted 2x2s which I cut to fit the height. It wasn't too hard really.

Wait until the wall is covered with flowers, makes it all worth while then.

Having them all together on a wall also makes it easier to keep them all moist and keep the humidity up.

Working in the heat......what we do for our orchids, heh.

Anton, I can't wait for all the blooms. It sure is easier to water the mounts to. I just hose them down. Much quicker!

Katrina, I was a little afraid of drilling into the metal but no problem. Still have all my fingers!

Kortney, I did it again again!!! LOL!!! I put in an order with Hauserman's and now I have a cart full of 2.5" Catts. from Carmela Orchids.

Dian, so I don't get it. Do I have to fax in the order? I can't get the deal online. Right? How did you order yours. Thanks. I'm ordering 25. Hehehe! Sooo bad!

Bad bad girl.

I e-mailed them and asked them how they would prefer the order so I would get the Show special No. 1 FREE SHIPPING. I was told to either e-mail them the list or order them online and they would change the order before it was shipped. I ordered them online and am waiting for shipment. I have been in contact with them and they said they would try to ship this week as they had a hurricane warning over the weekend and they didn't know what it would to to them. Anyways I have been watching the order (they give you an order confirmation # when you place the order) and still see the higher price and charge for shipping.

I think the less stressful way would be to send them the list by e-mail (just make sure the ones you want come in the 2 1/2 size and don't say anything about not being included in any specials) , mention the "Online Orchid Show Special No. 1-FREE SHIPPING" and have them send you an order confirmation with the reduced prices and the free shipping.

I'm bad, aint I?

That brings me to over 105 plants, definately time to start thinking about building a greenhouse.....

Dian

Thanks guys. I'm pretty proud of the wall. My husband came out and took a look at my work and said "not bad".

After my orders arrive the wall will definitely be full along with the whole greenhouse. Maybe another Geek will come up with another good idea to get more space.

Look UP?

Got note from Carmela's, orchids on their way. Price is correct, so all is well.

Oh, yeah, forgot to mention that I do have a sunroom on the south side of the house (8' x 24'), goes from one side (east) to the other (west)(small house). So maybe don't need greenhouse yet.... yet.....

It does have very large Wisteria on south side of east end of building but south/west side is clear.

Maybe put up some hanging walls out there, like that idea. Not much floor space but walls? Gets really hot in summer though.

Maybe put the hanging walls inside the window frames and have them swing out for watering? ............

Got me thinking again.

Dian

Nice going Solay and you did the building too? That is great !! I love the wall . You have been working very hard haven't you? I remember when you got that shipment. I bet it has been real hot there too. I love how that made so much space. How many do you have now? Thanks for posting the pics it gives me some ideas too.

Dian, the roof is too low for hanging except the center peak. Can only fit a few from top. Maybe you can make a mount wall that can be moved indoors or out.

Orchilover, the greenhouse itself was put up by both my husband and I.

Mine arrived today, WOW!

Hi Solay,

Got my order from Carmela's today, WOW.

Huge plants in those tiny pots, really makes this an amazing deal. Most need to planted in larger pots, they have roots climbing out everywhere. One even has buds.

My Kitchen now looks like a nursery. I'll take one of those, and ones of those.... Oh, yeah, I already did.....

Pics to prove it....

Just wait until you get yours....

Dian.

Wow! Those are really nice sized plants for $3. I got got an e-mail from them and will be placing an order today. Now that I've seen how nice they are I think I might end up ordering more.

I got one of my e-bay orders and just had enough time to get them out of the box and into the G/H before my husband could see them. I didn't get a chance to take pics. yet.

How bout another greenhouse? lol The wall looks great. I wish I could get a greenhouse. I know some people in my area have them, but they also have the big bucks to keep them going through our cold winters. Hubby would never agree to that. but I do like the idea of a wall that can be moved. I might have to come up with soemthing on a small scale. I don't have any mounted chids as of yet and would love to get some.

Syndywindy, you need to mount some orchids. I love them mounted and for me they do much better that way since I tend to over water. Plus I love the mounted look.

So, here's my order Carmela orchid order list. I should be getting them early next week. A few of these I got two of cause the pics. of the blooms were so pretty. Now I'll start scratching my head and try to think of a way to fit them all in.

Wow, you went for some 4" pots.

I was chicken since the deal says only on the 2.5" pots. They have some in the 4" that I wanted. Did they still give you the deal on free shipping? I don't supposed it matters now, since I am not going to order 20 more 2.5" just to find out...

Also, liked that Blc. Ann Cleo 'Stars & Stripes' but saw in the description that it would not be discounted, so didn't ask.

You are much braver than I.

Just a note, they did send one in a 4" pot, I guess 'cause they ran out of 2" pots, and then didn't charge me any more for it. So Hooray!

Dian

I think they did give it to me for the same price as the others. Not sure until I see the final bill. I just ordered them online too and let them figure it all out.

Hope they run out of 2.5" pots for me too. Hehehe! That would be really nice. Guess I'll find out.

You guys are really tempting me. ($3.00?) Who is the seller?
I'm trying to make more room as well. I want to put the rain chain somewhere near the others outside for hanging. Can't find the tree limbs or other anchors yet. Still thinking.

Dian has a link to the web site in one of the posts above. It's really a huge selection to choose from and they all look so purrrrty!!! Once you go on the site you won't be able to resist.

Kortney, even one plant is better than none and there's nothing like getting more orchids. I just can't buy one. It's an illness I've contracted somewhere along the way.

Many moons ago, there was a (now defunct) orchid place in West Mifflin (Pittsburgh) PA that had no benches at all. 100% of the greenhouse was stretches of 8-foot tall fence, and all of the pots had "S" hooks in the rim to suspend them on the fence.

I copied the idea, but made a zig-zag fence down the center aisle of my GH, making it free-standing. I used 1" galvanized pipe and Kee-Clamps to hold it together.

Here's the plans.

Thanks for the plan. My current G/H is too small but if I ever get an upgrade I may want to have something like that.
