Looks good, I have mounted some vanda varieties and they seem to do very well on wood, after all we are basically have them mounted when we put them in a basket.

Hi Magicman... I love mounting my orchids & I've got a fancy for vandas ![]() It's awesome that you are able to mount yours in a tree and let it live there... I can't do that in Indiana but I do in Jamaica... Would it be rude of me to post my Jamaica mounted orchids? I hope not... I think it's awesome the way the roots have grown to take hold. I didn't put the moss there though that you did... I didn't have any in Jamaica but I did have some coconut husk, some charcoal & some other things that I put under the roots... plus I asked our gardner to be sure & water them everyday there is no rain during the hot summer months... there is lots of humidity though. These are mounted in/on our Neesbury tree. I took 2 of the vandas I mounted in Jamaica out of their plastic pots but the third one I decided to leave in the pot and will try to cut the plastic away once the vanda is good & grabbed hold... I don't really like the way the pot looks but since I couldn't be there for several months after originally mounting it I had to go this route with that particular plant on that branch. The last 3 or so pictures are of one of my Indiana vandas (v. motes indigo) that I put in a clay pot last fall... it got top heavy this spring & I mounted the pot & all inside a hollow tree branch. The entire mount is currently hanging underneath of one of our shade trees that gets dappled sun all day but of course it will have to come back inside the house by mid October. The Jamaica vanda mounts can stay where they are indefinately ... one of my JA friends that grows orchids said, "Dems tru outdoorsmen. You cyaaan't make dem leave now". ![]() Thanks for letting me share my photos here too |

Nice mount. Do you know what colour this one flowers? I have a couple of vandas mounted in trees, too. One I only put there a couple of weeks ago, but the other has been there a while and is going well. Once the roots get hold they really take off.

When I mount my Vandas I do it the same way I do if I put them in a basket - I just fasten them to the mount and let them grow, that is the same procedure I use if I put them on a wire or in a basket - it works. They fasten on and then the roots start hanging down. Magicman, is that on a mount hanging on a tree or is it attached to the tree? They do not like cool weather so if it is on the tree how are you going to protect it when our temperatures dip below 40?
