Mounting material

I am going to try mounting a plant for the first time when spring come - well as we are still in autumn [fall] in this part of the world that will be a while. I thought I would try with a dendrobium first. I have a tree fern - if I cut that out as it has grown too large for the corner I have it in, can I use pieces for mounting? Do I need to let it dry out first?
Also is paperbark tree [Melaleuca] any good for mounting, they are plentiful in this part of the world, I don't know if they grow overseas as I think they are native to Aust.
Thanks
WP

I'm not sure I know what the materials are that you're speaking of. I'm sure some others from OZ will be on to help- You want to make sure that it's not a material that will break down from the moisture, etc.- Good luck!

I know tree fern is used for mounts but I've only seen them dried. Not sure what a paperback tree is though. Sounds promising just from the sound of it. Like Patti said. There'll be more people in your area to comment.

Both tree fern and Melaleuca are good. You can mount almost anything on tree fern. I have only mounted Den tetragonum on Melaleuca. It works really well for them. They grow on it in the wild.
