My mounts and their tank.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to show off a few mounts that I redid recently. They are hanging in a 10 gal aquarium with LECA and water in the bottom for humidity (and its usual very high humidity in there 70-100%) The lid is a piece of Plexiglas cut to fit. It has a 2x2in hole in the top for ventillation but no fans. A piece of bamboo wedged in makes a good hangar.

The overall cost to make this tank was about $15. I love it because it enables me to grow mounts that I wouldn't even think about growing otherwise.

Pic1-Bulbo. Blumei, recently remounted onto tree fern and is very happy.
pic2-Rcdm. hybrid
pic3-Maxillaria tenufolia, also recently remounted.

There is also a little Phal NIOD in there and a bunch of moss im trying to get to grow on tree fern.

20gal fish tank sitting empty!?! Fish tanks are like gold in my house. You can grow the really tricky stuff like carnivorous plants and masdevallias and pleurothallis, etc.

Does it have a lid with a light? you could have a whole setup on you hands just waiting to be filled with all kinds of miniature orchids!

Trinigirl, I have not yet had any of these plants boom for me, so you can rest assured that when they do ill take like a thousand photos and plaster them all over this site.
The bulbo has grown from a seedling and im pretty sure its getting close to blooming size. The Rndm is mature I just have not beem able to bloom it yet, and the Max. is recovering (quite well) from a long period with no roots.

the last mounts were questionable so I redid them and they turned out well. Ill leave them be now and hopefully they will flower soon.

Well... for Ontario you could easily keep cool growers. I have even heard that people put a tube or pipe to the outside so that cool air can cycle in. Here are a few cold growers.

-endless Masedevallia possibilities!
-a favorite of mine: Telipogon (Trichocerous are also cool)
-Draculas
-most other pleurothallids

warmer growers:
-there are some really tiny Dendrobiums.
-tiny Bulbophyllums
-Tolumnias (although they have large spikes)
-Ghost orchid
-Sophronitis

Oh its like virtual shopping! I dont have a ton of minis but they sure are fun. I bet some people on here have thousands more suggestions.

The tank is super easy to set up. You can just pile some gravel, or LECA if you have it around, on the bottom and add some water. Rig up a hanging bar and your set! Im not sure what kind of lights you need but usualy the lights in Aquarium lids are good for plants. I just use natural light. Plug it in, (a timer really helps and they are fairly cheep) and just add orchids!

Oh sorry, its all out of whack. The fourth plant is a little Phal Keiki which is mounted in some metal netting and sphagnum moss. The other three are the ones I am most proud of so I didn't show that one.
