hanging mountings on a stone wall?

I have a stone fireplace. Would it be a problem to hang mounted orchids off of it with masonry screws? Would they get cold hanging on a stone surface? What are good mounted orchids for beginners? (Please don't say none).

The most important thing will be to buy an orchid (mounted or orhterwise) whos cultural needs match the conditions you have on your stone wall. So:
1) determine what conditions you have on your wall: how much light, temperature, humidity, etc.)
2) once you know what your conditions are look at the culture sheets for the various orchids either here on this forum or at AOS | Home.
3) after looking at the different cultural requirements for the different kinds of orchids, choose the orchid whos needs most closely matches what you can offer.

Let us know if you have questions about how to determine what conditions you have or, after you've read the dulture sheets, if you have questions about them.

On the fireplace? How close to the hearth? Do you use the fireplace? I'd be worried about too much hot DRY air rising from the hearth and drying out the orchids. Almost all orchids are a like in liking moist air. If you use that fireplace a lot I'd find another spot for your 'chids. Or, is the fireplace out side? Gotta pic?

We don't use the fireplace. Its in our kitchen. I was even thinking of putting lights in the fireplace and mounting one on a log and putting the log on some andirons but I think it would be too heavy to move to water so I'm sticking with on the wall.
