Well, if you have it in a high-humidity environment, you are already helping it moisture-wise. Other things which might help would be heat and a root stimulant. Keeping the plant on a heat mat, on top of a bank of lights, or otherwise keeping it warm will help it to grow new roots. A seaweed mixture, KLN, or other rooting hormone may help some roots to get started too. A weekly dunking in a solution like this, or occasional spraying of the base of the plant where roots would be expected, might spur some action. When you cut the rotted roots off, I hope you used Physan or some other product to kill the remains of the rot. You should have cut back to healthy tissue, using a sterilised knife or razor blade. Did you repot it, or is it just lying in your "superfogger"? Some people like to have a recovering plant on a bed of spaghnum moss, which seems to be root-friendly. Good Luck! And do you have any pics? |

I'm sorry about your orchid. A month ago, I rescued one from a box store with two wrinkled leaves and no roots. I mounted it upside-down and hung it amongst my large, leafy houseplants. After a month, it is getting a new root and leaf. I think this will be my new rescue method for phals. Leafmite |

I think that cym. is a great idea to help you cope. : ) Sometimes, with plants, you can do everything right and they still die and, sometimes, the opposite is true, depending, often, on the individual plant. Enjoy your new orchid! Leafmite |
