As soon as i finish moving.

I'm going to move my plants with new growth over to S/H
at my new place there is not enough sunlight. So i'm also going to go with Some LED lighting.

I think this is an over kill but they use orange leds also. does anyone know why?
300W LED Grow Light 7:1:1 TriBand Hydroponic plant lamp (eBay item 120643281886 end time 04-May-11 13:55:48 AEST) : Home

i'm actually looking to get this to start with

LED 225 GROW LIGHT PANEL BLUE/RED LAMP FOR HYDROPONICS (eBay item 320641238367 end time 10-May-11 15:50:09 AEST) : Home

i've done the research
i'm grabbing some LECA

If anyone in australia has recommendations on fertilizers i'd be much appreciated.
So i can soak the LECA in it.

i will keep you all posted

My understanding is that plants only use the red and the blue so I'm not sure why they would use orange. I do know the combo grow lights/panels are set up w/the proper ratio of blue to red.

Recently we had someone give a talk at our OS about growing under LEDs. He's been doing it for 2yrs and says he's never...EVER...seen the growth, new leads, and flowers that he's getting w/the LEDs. He previously used HPS lights.

He's been running his lights for 2 yrs...15hrs per day...and has not yet had to replace any of the lights. The little diodes will burn out over time but you don't have to replace the lights until a certain number (depending on the number you start with) are burned out. I don't remember the ratio or number but that's something you can ask an LED vendor.

The other up side...he's reduced his electricity bill significantly...the LEDs take less power to run AND since they produce virtually no heat, his cooling system is not running nearly as much as it did w/the HPS.

Thats great news Katrina, thanks for the input. I'm an electronics electrician. So i can fix the LEDS if they do short out. But they shouldn't for at least 60,000 hours.
I'm really excited to see how it turns out.

I finish moving within the week, So i'll do some before and after shots.
I'll try to update T LEAST monthly.

Wish me luck.

You're welcome. After listening to this gentleman's talk, I really wanted to come home and switch all of my T5's to LEDs. Alas...that would be quite costly and given that my lights aren't all that old...it'll have to wait until the LED costs come down a bit more. Once they do...I'll probably start switching some of the T5's over to LEDs...at the very least...in my cooler grower area.

Definitely keep us updated...I know there are a lot of others that have been looking into/considering/wondering about the LEDs.
