I have a similar plant in S/H and it does very well. But if you are going to use the same pot, does it have any holes in it now at the bottom? If so, putting holes an inch up from the bottom won't accomplish anything as the water will just drain out from the bottom leaving nothing in the resevoir.

Yes there are holes but I'll close them all up with additional plastic using a sodering iron

Ok. Here is he results: Plenty of good roots below the medium, trimmed off the soft soggy ones and fills the pot nicely. The roots above the medium are new; developing over the past month or so (I've watched this one on the discount rack for over a month ) So I figured I'd leave them above the medium in hopes they will find there way into the medium ![]() Thank you for all your assistance with this!

Good luck, you picked one that should love the constant moisture. I'm surprised you found a big box store selling orchids in clear pots. Usually their stuff is jammed in soggy media in ugly cheap black pots. Brooke |

| -Update-
-Update- Here it is a month later, spike appeared after about 2wks; the front s/b has lost a little plumpness but the back one is swelled and going strong! The roots seem to be taking the transition so far as well ![]() Of course after the first week I decided 2 plants would be a better test So I got this not in bloom for 10 beans at a local nursery, the tag reads Oncidium "Bllra Mathias 'They Like Me' ...I thought the p/b looked cool. ![]() Since then it has also put off new growth which is sweet and some new roots so I'll continue to keep Pic 1: "Hybrid Brassidium; Shooting Star Mustard HCC/AOS". Pic 2 -3: Bllra Mathias 'They Like Me'

Instead of soldering up the holes on the bottom, and easier trick to do is place the whole pot in a dish or pan and will with water to act as a resevoir. It will have the same advantaged of having a resevoir. But nice growing! and wow a spike that fast? |

Yeah thought about putting it in a dish or pan but I liked the idea of a self contained system, also allows me more space as the dish circumference is greater. As for the spike, I have to imagine the plant was getting close to spiking when I purchased it so I can't take full credit for that. Still a good sign the plant is healthy and determined to do it's thing!
