Question about watering in S/H

For those of you who grow in S/H, do you still put your plants out in the summer and let them get rained on?

I've read when you water, you should completely flush the pot, not just top off, so I'm wondering if they are getting rained on, isn't that kind of like topping off? Or is it ok cause it's rain?

And in case it makes a difference, the plants I have in S/H are Masdies.

TIA,

I have several in S/H and when they are out in the summer I really didn't worry about the rain. My understanding is you can't overwater when using S/H. Last summer was the first summer I had them outdoors and I had no problems at all. Of course if it didn't rain I had to water more often, but otherwise it was fine. AThe only thing i watched for was disease issues as our summer was ridiculously cool and cool and wet spells trouble.

I agree with Synda.

Look at it this way: if you "top off" with fertilizer solution, you are adding more dissolved solids to the unknown chemistry of the reservoir. Rain merely dilutes it, which by itself is an improvement.

Also, part of the reason for rapidly filling the pot to the top is to flush the medium. Rain does that on a continuing basis.
