Pots for Cyms in S/H

I want to convert my Cymbidium into s/h. What pots do you use for yours? Any make shift/recycled pots?

You can make any container into a s/h pot as long as you have it in a saucer of water. My first attempt was a regular clay pot sitting in a plastic drip tray.

Just make sure that the pot has a tall aspect, rather than short and squat. Cymbs love to run their roots vertically.

I went to Ikea and they had semi-transparent garbage buckets that were about a foot and a half tall, by14-16 inches in diameter. They are the perfect size for semi-hydro cymb. I donno for sure if cymb.s have photosynthetic roots... but they were the best thing i've found so far

I got some transparent wastebaskets from Walmarts. (Pretty) I had a friend drill some holes about 2" from the bottom. I'm going to try my 2 Cymbidiums in those this year.

I also cut clear plastic juice bottles, etc., for s/h containers.

Cymbidium sp. Semi Hydro on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

There's a pic of the pot that I'm talking about with a sad looking cymbidium. I'm hoping it cheers up with the semi hydro method.

I go to dollar stores, Wal-mart, Bed, bath & Beyond, etc. and peruse the plastic storage containers. They're bound to have something usable.
