Miltionopsis s/h?

Has anyone tried a miltoniopsis in s/h? I recently purchased my first, Mtps Mont Cambria x Hautlieu, and whatever it's potted in has been soaked for over a week and a half, I don't like letting things go more than a week without watering, especially if I can't see the roots. It's in a black pot with a lot of furry moss, not sphagnum, on top, so I can't see what it's in at all.
I read in quite a few books that it prefers sphagnum moss, so if not s/h I wiil try that, have some of the nice aaa new zealand on hand.
Was just wondering if anyone had tried the s/h, if it has worked for others, I would much rather pot in that.

Looks like you may have to be the pioneer, Oncidlover. I do see a nice new root starting on it.

Whatever medium you use, I hope you'll post about the success you have with it. I'm getting a couple of small mtps soon, and can benefit from whatever experience others here have with it. Mine will be going in small coco chips.

I am actually getting ready to repot two new Milts tonight, and am doing them in s/h. No clue how they'll do, but hopefully it'll turn out nicely.

I had one I grew in s/h and it did great. They are water hogs and loved the constant moisture.

I have a Milt and Wilsonara in S/H and they are doing quite well. They have been in S/H for about six months, alot of new growth and roots. They are thirsty little buggers tho, and if I turn away too long, the resevoir is dry. So if you use S/H, keep an eye on your water level.

I potted her up this morning, yay! It ended up being potted in what looked like fine shredded coconut husk, peat, charcoal and sponge rock. The skewer was still very wet but the roots and mix were quite dry, I'm glad I got it out of there! I'm so very dependent on the clear pots, if I can't see in there, I'm lost. Poor thing was probably dry for days!

now remember, it has to acclimate to the new environment. you may get pleating in the leaves or such, but if you're Milt is anything like my Onc and MTDM, it'll be very happy! Give it 3-6 months and I was picture updates...

try to keep the root system warm- I'm a firm believe in heater mats.

Thank you, it was a lot more fun potting in the leca than anything else I've ever potted in!
vcuchick, it's on the radiator cover and it's in the 30's at night here now, so the radiators run quite a bit, they ought to be getting some pretty good heat.
I'll post pics as soon as something happens. I'm so excited, a new adventure!
