| Phalaenopsis Keiki
I have 4 Phals that I did not cut off the green spike as per instructions. I now have 5 keikis with nice roots which I have potted. My question is: How do I label the new Phals? |

Ken they are exactly what the parent plant is.

| Lable them with the exact same name as the mother plant. They are essentially divisions of the mother plant and as such are genetically identical: the exact same species or hybrid as the case may be.

They should be nice when they grow. I haven't had any put out keikis yet. I wish they would, I love keikis!

Are those minis? I've only had a mini rebloom and then keiki. The regular Phals I've left green spikes on are the ones that are not showing signs of new spikes. I've been thinking of cutting them off.

My father gave me a keiki from one of his phals. He potted it and it just took off. 5 months old in total from keiki on plant to flower open size, and it had 3 flowers. The first 2 had bud blast and the third stayed open for 8 weeks!! ![]() I expected all to blast for such a young plant. The keiki grew exceptionally fast also. To put things in perspective, he labelled the tag 24 april 2009 on potting day and the flower dropped off in the last few weeks. ![]() I think this is on the unusual side of things and conditions must have been perfect. I doubt that this will happen too often for me. Last edited by plucker; 11-14-2009 at 09:18 PM. Reason: cant spell |
