Decided to start a growing list, to assist with keeping track. I will add links to pics once I get more organised. Please feel free to point out errors in ID, nomenclature, or anything else - I want to learn!

I am more interested in species than hybrids; the hybrids I have listed are technically plants of my mother's that I am sort of looking after for a while.

Most of my orchids are either very small (ie young) plants, or ones that I received in less-than-perfect condition.... so I do not expect to see many blooms for a while yet.

I will amend as I add more, or if I find out more specific ID info. These are listed basically in the order in which I acquired them.... if the list grows too long, I may change it to alphabetical.

Good on you for wanting tp learn the names correctly form the start. It will end up beign easier for oyu in the long run.

Your names look pretty good for the most part except for one small mistake you've made pretty consistently throughout your entire list, and that is that generic names (genus) should be capitalized. So for example: Dendrobium biggibum, Sarochilus hartmannii, etc., etc.

Also cultivar names are also capitalized. In your list I see 2 plants wiht cultivar names 'Formosum' and 'Australis'. So:
Phalaenopsis amabilis 'Formosum'
Dendrobium antennatum 'Australis'
You correctly have the cultivar names in single quotation marks.

It is still a species. In nature species cross with themselves and others of the same species all the time, so Den antennatum x same, self, or sib., will all still just be Den antennatum.

Dockrilla are currently still recognized as Dendrobium for the purposes of hybrid registration.

Kevin, I really appreciate your comments and corrections, and will edit my list accordingly. I can be a little *ahem* pedantic about this sort of stuff so I really would like to be corrected.

Also, that linked thread looks very helpful, thank you. Hopefully once I have read it through a couple of times, it will come naturally!

I have a couple of further questions, if you don't mind, but will ask them over on that thread in case there are other people who read it in the future who have similar questions.
