| Not great news on capsule #3
I just heard from flasker #3 that it doesn't look good for my seeds. They say that there are seeds-(lots!) but didn't see embryos. They are planted anyways just in case. I haven't heard from #2 or #1 yet, but I'm not holding out much hope at this point.

Would that mean that the plant is sterile?

This is what he wrote: Patti We got your MLF (SLC x PO) seeds set up and an assessment made. Unfortunately, although seeds are present we found none with apparent embryos. Possibly one or a few were missed and my show up as germinated in a few weeks, but do not count on it. This happens occasionally, especially with Catt-related orchid crosses. It appears that pollination of the flower occurred but fertilization failed, so only seeds lacking embryos are the result. It might be timing of pollination or possibly an environmental event interfered with normal development. Also, it could be genetically based sterility. Often, however, breeders find fertile seeds when the same cross is made again later. Don’t get discouraged; I am sure another cross you make will work out; we appreciate your business and interest! ----------------------- I'm soooo sad.

Let's cross those fingers and see if the other pods have any luck. Think happy, positive thoughts !!!

Im sorry to hear that. Thats one reason why when we try to cross, we do more then one flower, in order to ensure we get something. Dont give up hope.

Well I heard from flasker #2 today, and that one's a no embryo seeds as well. I'm told that it's quite common with hybrids and that sometimes the cross will take if the parents are reversed. I've got some other crosses going, so, we'll see what happens down the road. I haven't heard from #1 yet, but I'm not holding out much hope.

Thanks solay....I agree that if nothing else, I've learned a lot from this experience. I'm not holding out much hope for the other one- It was the smallest of the three. I have some Phal capsules developing that I'm pretty excited about, and I'll continue to try with my mini Catts.
