Aww! That is sad! I bet that's a possibility of what happened to Hoosier.

Troy Meyers has one of the finest research labs around. He is one of the people that I've sent one of my flasks to. I've sent a donation. I hope they pull out.

I'm so impressed with this man. Any time I send him an e-mail, he responds right away. I know he does a lot of work with species. These are so important to the orchid world. Meyers Conservatory He does proprietary, too. You send him seeds, he updates you on germination, yeild, etc, asks you how many final flasks you want, then he sends you seedlings, washed and ready to pot in a sterile, sealed plastic bag thing. Pretty simple, and not bad prices, from what I recall. Mind you, it's been a few years since I've had anything flasked. -Cj ------ And this post by Ellen... If the plants are grown to a decent size, with good root support, you should lose very few of them in the deflasking process. Losses generally occur due to plants being too immature (grassy junk or rootless plantlets - nothing you can do about it, especially if plants are shipped in baggies instead of in flask), compots kept too cold, contamination by mold (promoted by conditions that are too wet, too cold, and/or too little air circulation). Keep the baby plants warm, give them plenty of light and good air flow, have faith that they will grow, and don't fuss with them too much. Exasperatus, the compots from 3 flasks won't take up much room at all. The space issue arises in a couple of years when you pot them all out, and even more so when you have 75 or so big ol' hulking catts getting up to blooming size. Hopefully by then you will have found homes for some of them. Good luck to all who are growing their "firstborns"! It's an exciting process. Digg this Post!Add Post to del.icio.us I'm not great at copy & pasting, yet- But these are 2 postings from our forum about Meyers, by 2 of our geeks that I think a lot of!
