What should i do to the protocorm?

Hi all, i have some protocorm remains from my recent orchid deflasking. They looks like rhizome but no scales.

Would it grow into orchid if i pot them up as of how i potted up the seedling?

I did a flask of L. purpurata var. alba and had dozens of protocorms left over. The flask should have probably been replated but I don't have that skill. I put drainage holes in a shallow plastic container, put moistened sphag in the bottom and laid some of the protocorms on the sphag. I had eight of the protocorms actually turn into small plants with roots :>)

I have since planted these into two compots and they are alive and well. The plant size is 1/4 - 1/3" in size. Did I need these - NO - but I have these "what if" moments and gave it a try.

Give it a go, they will die if you toss them but you might get some to live.

Thanks, that is encouraging. Because everywhere i turn in google meantion that i need to do replating which i too don't have the skill and facility todo so. But i do have a bit of plants hormone around. Maybe i shouldn't use that. Since i don't have to environment for them to supports its extra growing speed.

I will do like what you did. Patiently waiting for more baby orchid.

Usually I just throw them away. but in cymbidiums I gave some of the bigger protocorm a chance to see how they would grow as there were alot in the flask.
Some had a bit of leaf growth but no roots.
Eventually I got a couple to grow and they eventually grew on and flowered. perhaps a year or so later then the rest.
I grow a lot of Paphs from flasks the protocorm with out roots or biggish leaf grow just fade away.
Worth a try.

it depend on your skill in raising seedling. I have done that before but is is a numbers game.
a lot will die.

Thanks. Maybe i should hangon to it until my friends has master the skill of tissue culture. I gather that if i use 6BA on it, i might be able to force it to grow leave but without roots and supportive environment. That could mean one way ticket.

Actually i had quite good success with this deflasking. All are well except those i try growing with ordinary soil and a few blocks of PLB that rots away.

So it is more for the "fun" part of it.

Is always good to try. Compare to throwing it away which is same is sure die. It is good to learn something even if it eventually turns black and goes to the dustbin.
