Horror Story - From Willnot

Hello again

This is a horror story that I'm sure will send a shudder through all you orchid lovers.

A sharp eyed friend admiring my collection of orchids spotted some small white fluffy pests, and on inspection with a magnifier I discoverd further infestation.

A reference book recommended methalated spirit.

I rashly told my dear husband about this ( I should have known better! )

Hopeing to please me and not having any meth's he decided that paint- thinner would do the same job!!

Imagin my horror when I dicovered what he had done.

All but one of my precious orchids, a good strong hardy chap ( if a little ordinary ) perished.

Well not quite, one other small pale green orchid that looked dead started to recover and has now grown fresh new leaves, and has produced flower buds.

The meth's treatment does actually work well, on a cotton bud, or coctail stick and a wisp of cotton-wool.

Men !!!!

Pam

Sorry to here about your mishap. Isopropanol will also work. A further word of warning, a few months ago I used isopropanol on a Disa and the leaves fell apart overnight. I definitely wouldn't use alcohols on Disa nor probably any other thin leaved orchids. Fortunately the Disa had a zest for life and sent up new leaves through the blackened crown - very scary none the less.

WOW. If you need to find the silver lining in your trajedy...at least you can go shopping for more now and he'll have no right to complain.

Gotta give him "A" for effort. He probably feels horrible. But this is a stepping stone. Get him involved! This way he can get hooked and get more orchids!!!

Bad news for the orchids you lost, but good news for the ones you're going to replace them with!

Ladies? Don't be angry with your men. We are designed for hunting and gathering. Orchids were just flowers that got in the way. That's why God put them way up in the trees. I'm sure he thought he would make you silly with approval.

Oh, wow! I don't know what I would do... My husband doesn't go near my orchids except to look! I didn't tell him that, he just "senses" it! He gets a kick out of my addiction. He has a similar problem with classic cars. I "sense" that he wouldn't like me messing with his car! We enjoy checking out each others shows, etc., tho-
As the others have stated, he meant well. Have fun selecting some new chids!

My Lovey Dovey just makes fun of me. Says I'm all crazy and have no self control. He still supports it though.

Thank's everybody for your simpathy, I am pleased to tell you that the "little orchid" has a beautiful flower and a bud just opening.

I am having to write to you on my laptop because our teenager hogs the main computer,so I can't send a picture just now.

Best wishes Willnot

That's great to know that the orchid is doing well. So glad that it survived the alcohol bath. And it put out a bloom to boot. Awesome footnote.

I'm sure your hubby felt really, really bad about his misunderstanding, but at least he won't go there again when you get to replace them.
